Catalogue Note
The inscription Touun ('Prancing cloud') on the cover of the Japanese wood box is written by Nagao Uzan (1864-1942), a Japanese calligrapher, painter and renowned scholar in Chinese study. The inscription to the inside of the cover can be translated as follows:
'Yingde rock dotted with dimples and depressions,
Your beauty yet surpasses Lingbi.
Outstanding among even the select few,
Indeed how precious!
Thoughts from the Gentleman of Yushan.'
