Condition

The canvas is unlined. There is paint shrinkage and apparently stable craquelure to the pigment throughout the horizontal central band of the composition, namely in the rocks of the foreground. There is a stable vertical line of craquelure to the pigment in the center right of the composition, at the water. (approx. 2.5 in long). Further stable paint shrinkage and craquelure to the large rock on the left. Under UV light: there is some evidence of retouching to the pigment in the upper right quadrant in the sky and in the lower right across the rocks, each area measuring approximately 2 x 2 in. A thick varnish impairs further reading of the painting.
