Condition

The canvas is not lined. There is a milky varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating, however UV examination reveals some old retouching along all four edges, probably due to historic frame rubbing. There are some further smaller retouchings in places, the largest of which is an area to the sitter's proper left cheek (approx. 1.5cm wide). There are some spots of paint loss to the upper left corner, frame rubbing to the extreme edges and scattered fine lines of stable craquelure. This work is in overall fairly good condition.
