Catalogue Note
The present lot, dubbed the 'Maltese Falcon,' was created by Richard Mille in 2006 as an homage to the vessel of the same name, built by the Perini Navi boatyards. The yacht measures 289 feet and was the largest sailing yacht at the time of its construction and was commissioned by Thomas Perkins, who also was the original owner of the present lot. Perkins was a Venture Capitalist who was additionally well known as an outgoing philanthropist, technology innovator, and, as evidenced in his commissioning of the Maltese Falcon yacht, an avid sailor and yachting enthusiast. The present lot is distinguished from regular production RM014s which bear a Perini Navy logo to the dial.
