Manual winding movement, perpetual calendar and chronograph function in working order when cataloguing. Dial is in very good condition, nice and clean. Case with some fine hairlines to the bezel and band. Lower bezel with one light surface scratch. Strong hallmarks. Buckle with normal signs of wear. Overall in very good condition. Patek Philippe Ref. 5020 was introduced in 1994 as an alternative to the 3970. Powered by caliber CH 27-70 Q movement, a Nouvelle Lémania base movement produced exclusively for Patek Philippe, Ref. 5020 was fitted in cushion-form case with Breguet numerals. Because of its unusual shape, it was easily distinguished from other Patek Philippe watches and was soon referred to as the "TV watch". It takes a unique position in the production history of Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs. In a world before commonplace over-sized watches, this reference saw significant commercial resistance in the 1990s due to its perceived large size and as a result very few were made and sold. Production was halted in 2002.

According to our research, only a very small number of this reference were cased in pink gold. After its time of production ended, this watch has begun to be appreciated and fallen back into favour with collectors. For the 21st century Patek Philippe collector, the watch is now considered an iconic reference ahead of its time and a trophy for any modern wristwatch collection. In 2014, the firm revisited the stylish and bold shape with the perpetual calendar Ref. 5940.
