Literature
R. Joppien, Louis C. Tiffany. Meisterwerke des amerikanischen Jugendstils, exh. cat., Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, 1999, p. 147 (for a closely related example in the collection of the Museum für Kunsthandwerk Frankfurt and acquired at the Paris 1900 Exposition Universelle)
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The glass surfaces with some occasional scattered particulate inclusions, all inherent in the making and not visually detracting. The upper shoulder with a slightly larger particulate inclusion (1/2 inch), also inherent in the making and quite commonly seen with early pieces such as this. The vase interior with very light surface soiling. The exterior is beautifully iridized, imparting the vase with strong luminous color and a rage of brilliant hues. An exceptional example from this early and rare series displaying a highly complex and artistic decorative scheme. When viewing this vase firsthand, the coloration is slightly more subtle and nuanced than seen in the catalogue illustration.
