Condition

The mouthrim has a short stained hairline of approx. 0.5 cm with an associated pinhole. The bowl is otherwise in overall good condition with some minor firing imperfections.

Catalogue Note

The blue and white design of sixteen boys at play, first developed in the Yongle period, continued to be popular throughout the Ming dynasty and was revived in the mid-Qing dynasty. See a comparable bowl from the Daoguang reign in the collection of Simon Kwan, exhibited in Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1983, cat. no. 8; and another sold in our Paris rooms, 12th June 2013, lot 5.
