each with deep rounded sides rising from a short foot to an everted rim, finely enamelled around the exterior with four gilt-bordered medallions, each enclosing flowering chrysanthemum blooms borne on leafy stems, two medallions further picked out with smaller florets, including asters, all divided by finely enamelled leafy lotus strapwork and reserved on a rich blue sgraffiato ground picked out with feathery scrolls below the gilt rim, the base with an iron-red wenfu yawan ('refined plaything for the scholar') mark
Condition
The overall condition of the pair is very good. There are only expected minor surface wear and scratches, minute losses to the enamels, in addition to some typical firing imperfections.
