boldly carved as an elephant standing foursquare with its head turned to the left, its long curling tusk skilfully rendered, depicted with two young boys on its back, one playfully squatting with his arms raised as though to balance himself, the other clambering on the side with one hand reaching toward the other boy's knee, the stipple-grained surface patinated to a warm brown colour

Condition

As visible in the catalogue photo there are expected age cracks to the surface including one running down the left ear of the elephant. The boy on the top of the elephant: left hand broken off and made up. Body refixed to the elephant. Other minor bruises, cracks and general surface wear.
