Commode shaped bough pots, whose form likely derives from French faience originals, are illustrated in David Howard and John Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, Vol. 2, p. 572, no. 594 and William R. Sargent, The Copeland Collection, Salem, 1991, pp. 226 and 227, no. 110. Another example, with blue enamel drawers and flower and landscape painting similar to the present lot, was sold at Sotheby's Monaco, June 19, 1988, lot 1609.
