Catalogue Note

A plate from this service is illustrated in David Howard and John Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, Vol. 1, pp. 261-2 where the authors comment on the similarity between the building represented here and the image undoubtedly of Burghley House which appears on a Chinese Export punch bowl of circa 1735, which remains at Burghley.
