each raised on three scroll feet, the border flat chased and engraved with shells, trellis and scrolling foliage within strapwork, the centre later engraved with armorials

Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Clifford impaling those of Weld, for Hugh Charles, 7th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, who married in 1818 Mary Lucy, only daughter of Thomas Weld. The Cliffords of Chudleigh were a leading Catholic family in the 18th Century who patronised both Charles and Frederick Kandler extensively between 1730 and 1776.
