after the model by Johannes Schilling, posed as a drooping Bacchus, one acolyte in his arms and holding a tambourine, another seated playing a lute at his side, impressed crossed swords within a triangle, incised H195L and impressed numeral 147,

Condition

Lutenist's left fingers and top of her lute missing; chip to front right corner of base, otherwise one finger lacking to figure on left, and a lock of hair missing to central figure.

Catalogue Note

This model is based on the figure groups modelled by Johannes Schilling (1828-1910). The sandstone originals were produced in 1865-1867 for the Brühlsche Terrasse staircase in Dresden and a later set was cast in Bronze in 1908. A Meissen pair representing Noon and Night was sold at Christie's New York, 16th April 2015, lot 133.
