上款：「煨蓮」即洪業（1893-1980），著名旅美史學家，福建侯官人，「煨蓮」取自其英文名William的諧音。早歲赴美攻讀，得文學碩士及神學博士學位，歷任燕京大學、哈佛大學、夏威夷大學等教職。一九三〇年，創辦哈佛燕京學社引得編纂處，歷年編修中國經史子集引得逾八十冊，貢獻尤鉅。他於一九五二年以英文撰寫〈中國最偉大的詩人 — 杜甫〉，獲推為英語界杜甫研究權威之作。梁氏譽之「凌雲傳譯筆」，惺惺相惜之情溢於紙上！
