Description
- Jade
finely carved in the form of a mallow flower, the exterior with overlapping petals, the base forming the centre of the flower, the interior carved with two butterflies in relief amongst foliate scrolls, the stone of an even white tone, with some minor russet staining

John Sparks Ltd., London, 11th June 1951 (£125).
Condition
This bowl is in good condition, but does have a minor stained flaw (1cm) running diagonally across the rim to one side.

Deftly carved in the form of a mallow flower, bowls of this type are more commonly found carved on the interior with petals, such as a pair included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages, Victoria and Albert Museum, London , 1975, cat. no. 432, and sold at Christie’s London, 23rd May 1960, lot 114; and another pair, attributed to the 19th century, sold at Christie’s New York, 20th September 2013, lot 1717.
