  • Autograph document signed. Province of the Massachusetts Bay, no date but before June 3, 1768

2 pages, (323 x 202 mm), signed "And[rew] Oliver", "N[athaniel] Sparhawk", "Thomas Cushing", "John Hancock", "Sam[uel] Waterhouse", "Gen W. Brown", "W[illia]m Phillips for Abigail Broomfield", "Will[ia]m Pepperell", and "Samuel Adams". 
[with] Autograph document signed "S[amuel] Danforth" and countersigned "And[rew] Oliver", with an additional 7 lines in his hand, 1 page (323 x 202 mm), dated June 8, 1760; some browning, creases where previously folded, first document with repaired crease as well as small tears at folds, upper 1/4 of second document split along fold, one fold with repairs, docketed on verso "Prop.r of land in the Province of Maine, their application for a meeting", remnant of wax seal.

Catalogue Note

The first document addressed to Samuel Danforth, one of his majesty's justices of the peace, requesting a warrant for the purposes of holding a meeting in the British Coffee House in Boston on July 27th [1768], and additionally requesting a moderator, clerk, and committee to act on behalf of the proprietors of a "certain tract of common and undivided lande situate in the Province of Maine..." this being requested by the proprietors of said tract of land, including Andrew Oliver, John Hancock, Abigail Broomfield, Samuel Waterhouse, and Samuel Adams. The second document is the response from Samuel Danforth addressed to Andrew Oliver, granting the warrant and ordering him to notify the proprietors of the meeting. Oliver countersigns, and includes a note confirming his having notified the other proprietors of the meeting.
