Catalogue Note
A BOLD AND CLEAR SIGNATURE OF ELIZABETH I. The annual Garter Feast for Saint George's Day was one of the great ceremonial occasions of Elizabethan England, in which in which monarch and the knights of the Order, resplendent in their Garter robes, took part in a divine service, procession, and a great banquet. Lord Paget was frequently ill by the early 1560s and had largely retired from public life: this was to be the last major public event in which he played a part.
