Catalogue Note
Steven Heller in Schiller, David and Marcus, Maurice Sendak A Celebration of the Artist and His Work (New York, 2013) notes that in his posters, Sendak "...used the extra space to stretch out with his favored characters and allow them a chance to breathe more than they could on a book page. 'About the presence of Wild Things in so many of my posters,' he wrote, 'they are, for better or worse, the best known of my characters, and therefore their suitability as poster people seems self-evident to me.'"
