Description
- Giltwood, pine, parcel-gilt
each with a padded back and seat above S-scroll legs carved with stylised leaves and flowers, joined by X-shaped stretchers centred by a finial; with later additions
Condition
These chairs are in reasonable conserved condition, with marks and scratches consistent with age and use, together with chips and flakes to the parcel-gilt and painted surface throughout.
One chair with one foot broken and re-attached, one other chair with a broken and re-attached foot scroll, one chair with a repaired breakage to one leg; two chairs showing slight movements to joints. The seat rails with later reinforcements. All chairs with traces of old woodworm throughout which, however, appears to be no longer active. Re-upholstered, the later silk in good condition with minor marks and stains as expected from use but no tears. The finials are later.
