  • patinated copper electrotype
  • Elkington & Co. Ltd British, Birmingham, 19th century

Condition

Overall, the condition of the copper is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few original stable casting fissures, including to Christ on the proper left side of the head below the ear and to St John's proper left foot at the underside, and to St John's proper left knee. There is a hole to the top of the base with St John. There is wear to the patina, including small losses in areas, notably the high points. The underside of the base with St John is slightly warped, causing it to rock very slightly when placed on a level surface. The figure of Christ rocks slightly on the base. The figure of Saint John appears not to sit quite straight on its base.
