Provenance
Anonymous sale, Villa d'Este, Como, Christie's, 31 May 1971, lot 410 (as Nicola Malinconico).
Condition
Both canvases have sound old relinings. The paint surfaces are now dirty and covered with a layer of yellowed varnish. Both pictures are in very good overall condition. The largest damage is a repaired irregular oval loss of ca. 20 x 8 cm upper right to the painting with an arch. Otherwise the paint is well preserved in both pictures with only minor discoloured retouchings, the largest of which are gathered in the upper right corner of the same picture. There is a small t-shaped repaired tear, upper centre to the pendant. Both canvases are offered in early carved and gilt wood frames, several damages and much loss of original gilt.
