  • Austrian, Tyrol, 18th century
with old labels to the underside inscribed in pen: RIF 75 and: AX456 / 38 2

Provenance

Christie's Milan, 3 June 2003, lot 381

Condition

Overall, the condition of the lions is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt in the crevices. Both lions were carved in sections and joints are slightly visible to the backs at the top and to the undersides. The back section of one of the lions appears to have been reattached as glue residue is visible around the joint. There is some very minor stable splitting to one of the lions at the back of the mane. There are some minor chips and rubbing to the carving at the high points. One of the lions' haunches are flattened with small holes on the top.
