Description
- Walnut, parcel-gilt, upholstery, fabric
each with a cartouche-shaped padded back, arms and seat, within a moulded frame carved with flowers and foliage, on cabriole legs, upholstered with Beauvais tapestry
Condition
These elegant armchairs are in good condition, with minor marks and scratches consistent with age and use. All armchairs with traces of old woodworm which appears to be no longer active. One armchair with a small repaired breakage to the front left leg; two with later reinforcements to seat rails, one of these with residues of glue.
The tapestry cover is a good colour match with the printed catalogue photograph. The reverse of the back has a modern caramel coloured velvet inset. The main design of the tapestry has some small areas of repair and reweaving, and warp threads once loose are stabilised and secure. There is some reweaving to the edges in places, There is some oxidisation to the browns, commensurate with dye. Tapestry overall is in good restored condition and are in usable condition. They would benefit from being cleaned.
The four fauteuils have been professionally re-upholstered maintaining the probably original Beauvais tapestry. With sound joints.
