Description
- Francesco Capella, called Daggiù
- The Madonna and Child
- oil on canvas
- 78.2 x 61 cm
Provenance
Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 19 April 2000, lot 104 (as Federico Bencovich).
Condition
The canvas appears to have been strip-lined. The paint surface is now dirty and discoloured but appears to be in good condition. There are a number of minor discoloured old repairs, the largest of these is a 10 cm. diagonal scrape in the lower right hand corner, the remainder being entirely local or minor in nature. Closer inspection is impeded by the thick, slightly glossy varnish.
Offered with a later gilt wood frame with foliate and ribbon twist motifs in very good condition.
