Description

  • Saint Catherine of Alexandria
  • oak, with traces of polychromy, on a velvet covered wood base
  • Rhenish, 14th century style

Condition

There are losses to the drapery along the lower part of the sculpture, notably to the proper right side. The figure is held upright with a modern wood stand, which is attached with a metal bracket and screwed in on the reverse. There is some stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material. The polychromy is largely lost. There is some evidence of past worming, in particular around the bottom. Otherwise the condition is stable, with some dirt and further wear consistent with age.
