Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. All affixed elements are present and stable on the surface. There is evidence of light wear and handling along all four edges and sides of the canvas. There is light unobtrusive soiling to the right edge of the overlap that is most likely from the time of execution and is only visible when viewed closely from the side. There is faint scattered surface scratching in the top left quadrant, which is only visible under raking light. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

“There isn’t much reworking (in my paintings)…I don’t really move stuff around very much and then cover it up completely. I think I worked that way very early on and I felt at some point I couldn’t ‘see’ the painting anymore because I was seeing through to the memory of what had been there. So I tried to just work simply so I could see what I had made, as if I was just an ordinatry viewer of the paintings with no inside information.” Laura Owens
