Catalogue Note
Barye's Charles VII, Le Victorieux was first cast in 1857, although first modelled between 1836 and 1840. It closely follows a first version, simply titled Charles VII, in which the young king does not wear his laurel crown, but instead bears the same elegant and imposing equestrian pose, see: Richarme et Poletti, F7. This model depicts Charles VII (1403-1461) in his youth, before his 1429 coronation at Rheims, which eventually led to the reunification of France.
