Condition
The canvas has a wax relining, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is only slightly discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching around the top of the sitter's head, approx. 4cm. wide at most, with areas extending into the sky, upper right. There are two patches of retouching, measuring approx. 3 by 4cm. in the background, upper centre. There are other scattered, smaller areas of retouching in her dress and mantle, notably lower centre, and very few pinprick retouchings in her face. In overall fair condition.
