Condition
A small tear (1cm wide) appears in the upper left in the backgrounds. The carnations in the catalogue are too red compared to the painting in reality. Under UV light, no repaint is visible.

Catalogue Note
Peint à Nemours en 1944, ce profil de Sylvie Boutet de Monvel a été créé par l’artiste pour être présenté à l’exposition Profiles. La fille de l’artiste joue avec son chien, Champagne, dans le lit clos de sa chambre du Moulin de l’Aulnoy. D’un traitement particulièrement délicat, l’œuvre joue, comme souvent chez le peintre, de l’opposition entre construction rigoureuse (les carreaux du matelas, le somno [petit meuble de chevet circulaire], et la plinthe moulurée du lit) et courbes délicates (la panse du broc et la boiserie sinueuse de la partie supérieure du lit).
Une composition reprenant le même sujet se trouve au lot 128. Pour ces deux portraits Bernard Boutet de Monvel a pu s'inspirer de la pendule décorant sa bibliothèque représentant une jeune fille jouant avec son chien (lot 107).
