註：「梅景書屋」弟子，山水、花卉、人物諸科各有所長，寫人物稱譽者，以朱梅邨、吳道鄰尤著。

吳道鄰，字少蘊，江蘇吳縣人。生平資料見諸文字甚稀，僅憑畫迹知其一鱗半爪。他專攻人物，以規模古人為法，上溯宋元，下迄明人，臨摹逼肖，狀形傳神，直臻精妙。蓋其師收藏甚豐，且往來諸友皆收藏大家，故得機遍覽歷代珍品，取法其中。

本幅寫圉人牽馬，造型應取法自宋畫，可窺見趙松雪畫法痕迹，或借鑑於湖帆先生所臨之〈趙氏三世人馬圖卷〉。畫上無署年，按劉同春題跋所示，吳氏於上世紀五十年代初已「結束其文藝生涯」，本幅屬其「最後佳作」，可知出自當時。
