Description

the vase of baluster form and square section, set with animal-head handles suspending mock rings, the sides decorated in underglazed copper-red with peony sprays, between upright lappets and pendant ruyi, the bowl with an everted rim, decorated with a literati episode, the interior with chilren at play, the base with an apocryphal Chenghua mark

Provenance

The bowl: Sotheby's Amsterdam, 1st July 1999, lot 1064.

Condition

One of the corner of the foot of the vase is chipped and re-stuck on an approx 3.5 by 2.3 triangular section (visible on the catalogue photo). There are some firing impurities, including pinholes and burst air bubble to the rim as well as general surface wear. There is a minute 3 mm nick to the exterior of the rim of the bowl as well as a few specks in the glaze, but overall it is in good condition. The tone of blue is slightly greyish.
