the first of pear-shaped form, inscribed to the base with a two-character mark reading Siting; the secpmd with a globular body and a recessed base, the buff-coloured clay flecked with reddish-brown slip, the base impressed with two seals reading Zheng and Ninghou
Condition
The cover of the yilizhu teapot has two flakes, the larger one of approx. 1.2 cm, each adjacent to a related hairline crack. Both teapots are otherwise in overall good condition.

Catalogue Note
Zheng Ninghou, a native of Tongxiang, Zhejiang province was a zisha potter, who was active between the Tianqi (1621-1627) and Kangxi (1662-1722) period. Record has shown that he was adept at making teapots in the archaistic form. In addition, he was also an accomplished calligrapher.
Lu Siting was a famous potter from the early Qing period. He was particularly renowned for making the pear-shaped teapot, such as the one from the present lot, and therefore, this particular shape of Yixing teapot was named after him.
