the 'Cizhou' vase with an elongated ovoid body rising from a recessed base to a short neck and flared rim, applied to the exterior with a creamy-white slip and a transparent glaze picked out in dark brown with two detached stylised floral sprays, the handled vase of gu form with two handles suspending fixed rings, covered overall save for the base with a mottled brownish-black glaze, Japanese wood boxes

Condition

The 'Cizhou' vase with an approx. 5 cm two-piece section to the rim out and restuck; otherwise in overall good condition with some typical firing imperfections. The gu vase with scattered shallow flake chips to the foot; otherwise, in overall good condition with typical firing imperfections, including a few potting flaws to the central bulb and several faint glaze lines below it.
