Description

  • pottery
with slightly everted sides, supported on a slightly concave splayed foot, incised with a double fillet encircling the exterior and applied unevenly to the upper register and the interior with a translucent green glaze, wood stands

Condition

The two cups are in overall good condition. There are some expected original flaws in the glaze or the potting, or light occasional fritting to the rim, all consistent with the type.

A cup of this type, from the collection of Mrs E. Bennett, was sold in our London rooms, 24th May 1955, lot 120. See also three green-glazed cups, but lacking the incised rings, sold in our London rooms, the first from the Malcolm MacDonald collection, illustrated in Irenes Laszlo Legeza, A Descriptive and Illustrated Catalogue of the Malcom MacDonald Collection of Chinese Ceramics, London, 1972, pl.
