Condition

The board is sound. There are very minor scuffs to the extreme edges of the board, not visible in the present mount. There are a few tiny points of loss along the upper edge and a few small areas of loss in the sky, as well as three scratches or scuffs in the lower right quadrant. There is a light layer of surface dirt to the work with some discolouration to the varnish in places and there are spots of studio matter and staining throughout. The work may accordingly benefit from a light clean. Subject to the above the work is in good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a few flecks of retouching to the sky and to the centre of the sea. The work is window mounted and held within a simple black painted wooden frame and held under glass. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
