Small 4to (8 x 6 in.; 203 x 152 mm). General title with woodcut portrait of King Edward VI (facsimile) and calendar printed in red and black, divisional title to the Epistles of St. Paul and Revelations within woodcut border, 114 woodcut text illustrations including map of Palestine on &2r (some composite cuts, some repeats), text in black letter, woodcut initials, printer's woodcut device at the end (McKerrow 125a); washed and pressed, title supplied in facsimile, A1–2 and 4 and D5 defective and restored in facsimile, marginal repairs slightly affecting text on D7 and text and woodcut on D8, marginal repair to K8 with a side-note partially supplied in pen facsimile, a few other minor marginal repairs, some side-notes and headlines cropped, lacking the final blank leaf. Chestnut brown morocco roll-tooled to period style, spine in six compartments lettered in gilt and tooled in blind, raised bands, edges gilt.  Navy morocco gilt folding case.

Catalogue Note

First edition of Tyndale's version with Jugge's revisions and the first of Jugge's three illustrated quarto editions. The Tables of Epistles and Gospels (Rr6) allows for a second Communion on Easter Day, which was dropped from the service book in August 1552. The almanac begins with 1552.
