Catalogue Note

On the recto of the slip, perhaps taken from a friendship album, Charles Wesley has written the text of Ruth 2:12, omitting only the first six words ("The Lord recompense thy work, and"): "A full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust." On the verso he has transcribed the eight lines of his short hymn inspired by this passage:

I too have left my worldly home,
My old idolatry.
And to they people join'd, am come
To put my trust in Thee:
In Thee I seek my full reward,
With all they saints above:
But tell me, now, Thou are my Ld,
And bless me with They love.

This verse was first published in 1762 in Charles Wesley's Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures.
