Catalogue Note
Aitken writes to the Pennsylvania entrepreneur and patriot John Nicholson regarding some prints the latter has consigned. "I recd. the prints agreeably to your Invoice sent me, —the times I fear will make the sales go very slow, I suspect people will be more in want of necessaries than pictures, however I shall show them well in my window, & as soon as I sell a few, you will hear from me."
Aitken also describes some memorandum books, or similar volumes, that he has prepared for Nicholson: "I have also herewith sent 2 books to your direction, strongly sewed, & will open easy, but after all, if they seem close in the back, which I swelled as much as I could, you may cut out leaves here & there which will make more room. I put 2 strings to keep your papers from falling out, which if you do not like, there will be no harm in cutting them off."
