Description

  • brass
of typical spherical form, the globe engraved with constellation figures, stars, the equator and the ecliptic, and the solstitial circles parallel to the equator, drill hole and two protrusions for setting

Condition

In fairly good condition, some small patches of oxidisation and rsulting discoloration, rubbing, original stand missing, as viewed.

The present globe can be associated to a group of about thirty similar, decorative but non-functional known examples which are published by Emilie Savage-Smith (The Nasser D. Khalili collection of Islamic Art, XII, Science, Tools and Magic, VOL.II, London & Oxford, 1997, pp.406-413).
