Description

  • gilt-silver and gemstones
of bulbous form surmounted by an everted ridged neck, chased and engraved with floral stems within arched panels, the petals and leaves set with rubies and emeralds

Condition

In good general condition, some oxidisation and resulting discoloration, few minor encrustations where cleaned previously, very light scratches (particularly to underside), please note that some of the rubies and emeralds were probably replaced with glass or other stones, some are also missing, some are also with breaks, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

A huqqa base decorated in the same technique, with a floral pattern chased in relief but without any gemstones, is in the Al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait National Museum, inv. no. LNS 1102M. The combination of the relief pattern set with colourful gemstones can be seen on a sword hilt, locket and chape in the same Museum, inv. no. LNS 2158 Ja-c.
