Condition
Very good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Very old losses to the tip of the headress, as visible on the catalogue illustration. Beautiful honey color to the patina with encrusted brown area to the rear.

Catalogue Note
Autrefois dans la collection de Jacques et Anne Kerchache, ces trois œuvres furent choisies pour illustrer, dans le magistral ouvrage L’art Africain (Kerchache, Paudrat et Stephan, 1988), le célèbre corpus des pendentifs en ivoire Pende. Répliques miniatures des masques en bois, les ornements en ivoire ikhoko étaient « portés au cou comme charmes afin de prévenir ou guérir les maladies » (Torday, Notes ethnographiques, 1922, p. 297). Ces trois pendentifs témoignent superbement de la typologie et des styles de cet art qui a fait la renommée des sculpteurs Pende.
