Catalogue Note
At number 40, avenue du Bois, the Palais Rose was as sumptuous and as unavoidable as its owner, the superb Boniface (nicknamed Boni) de Castellane, in the Paris of the Belle Epoque and the roaring twenties.
A place of grandiose masked balls, rivalled only by those of the Hotel Lambert orchestrated by the Baron Alexis de Rédé, the Palais Rose was pitilessly destroyed in 1969. In 1926, Raoul Dufy fortunately painted it in its entire splendor.
