Description

  • An Egyptian Alabaster Canopic Jar

  • Height 17 1/4 in. 43.8 cm.
of slender ovoid form, the lid, possibly belonging, carved in the form of the head of Imsety, Son of Horus and guardian of the liver, wearing a wide wig leaving the well-shaped ears uncovered, the eyes carved in a very impressionistic manner.

Condition

Very good and as shown. Note large chip at base of the wig. The rim and edge of the base have a number small nicks. Minor imperfections in the stone and a few nicks on the body of the vessel. The lid fits loosely on the jar, and does not seem to have been made for it.
