Catalogue Note

In a letter addressed to Jean-Louis Domercq (Galerie du Sycomore) and dated October 28th, 1971, the Egyptologist Jean Yoyotte writes, “The deceased, a native of Dendera like her mother, was, also like her, a sistrum-player of Amen-Re. She bore the foreign name of Galéré (Garery), her mother was named Ouerentesen, and her father, also of foreign birth, Ekares (or ??? Icarios). These transcriptions are given with all due reservations and pending further study (transl. from the French).” Yoyotte compares the present panel with A. Moret, Sarcophages de l’époque bubastite à l’époque saïte (Catalogue général des antiquités égyptiennes du Musée du Caire), Cairo, no. 41014, pl. XVIII. Also compare op. cit., no. 41002, pl. IX.
