Description

  • An Attic Black-Figured Lekythos, attributed to the Athena Painter
  • Height 32 cm. 12 5/8 in.
decorated with a Gigantomachy showing Athena Promachos about to spear a kneeling giant in full hoplite armor, another giant fleeing behind her wearing a Phrygian cap, his shield emblazoned with a vine wreath, scrolling vine in the field, palmettes on the shoulder, tongues below the neck.

Condition

Repaired from several fragmentary with paint and minor restoration along break lines. Several areas of misfiring, including on figures. Losses to glaze on handle. Clay background slightly worn. Various areas of minor retouching with black paint on figures.
