Description

  • A Small Roman marble figure of a Man

  • Height 35 cm. 13 3/4 in.
perhaps a shepherd, standing with the weight on his left leg and the right hand on his chest, and wearing a long fleece mantle fastened on the right shoulder, draped around the hips, and falling in long vertical folds down the back, the right harm carved separately and now missing; no restorations.

French private collection, acquired in the 1970s

Condition

As shown. Surface slightly weathered overall but not enough to obscure the very finely carved details of the hair on the fleece mantle. Various chips and abrasions overall. Note missing proper right arm, originally made separately. Note remains of proper right hand on chest. Back carved with long straight folds, more summarily than the front and in similar condition.
