- A Group of Three Roman Marble Dionysiac Herm Busts
- Heights 17, 18, and 23.5 cm. 6 11/16 , 7 1/8 , and 9 1/4 in.
the two smaller herms with restored noses, the larger one with shoulders, neck, nose, eyebrows, and one cluster of ivy berries restored.
Provenance
European private collection, circa 18th Century (based on restoration techniques and Carrara marble plinths)

Condition
Bearded herm: Neck and shoulders, nose and eyebrows, and top cluster of ivy berries restored in marble. Lower lip and lower ledge of upper lip once restored in marble, as well as edge of moustache.
Herm at left on main catalogue picture, p. 16: Tip of nose restored. Stable stress crack running from front of bust through proper left side of face, up across the forehead, and bifurcating across the hair. Cheek bones and chin discoloured from rubbing and perhaps partly reworked. Note various losses and abrasions on hair and ivy wreath. Small area at front proper left corner of herm restored in painted plaster.
Third herm from left: In good condition, with restored nose and formerly restored rosette above forehead. Various chips, areas of abrasion, scratches, and weathering.
All three herms with eyes recessed for now missing inlays.
