Description

  • A Roman Marble Votive Stele of Asklepios

  • Total height 27 cm. 10 1/2 in.
standing with the weight on his left leg, both arms lowered, and holding a staff with entwined serpent in his left hand, a rocky outcrop against his right leg, and wearing a himation leaving his chest bare; no restorations.

Provenance

Belgian private collection, acquired in the 1950s/1960s (object is set into a custom-carved wood base with faded half-torn label underneath typewritten "Esculape gallo romain / marbre 2-3 S. apr. J.C.")

As described, French nicotine patina.
