Catalogue Note

European folk stories of storks delivering babies date back hundreds of years and were popularized in the nineteenth century by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen’s tale “The Storks”. The myth was particularly popular in Victorian times, because it provided parents with a way to answer children’s awkward questions about childbirth.
