Catalogue Note

This work was created for the cover image of the June 1916 issue of Vanity Fair. First published in 1913, Vanity Fair thrived under the editorship of Frank Crowninshield as a literary and society magazine. In 1936, in the wake of the Great Depression, the publication was incorporated into Vogue. In 1983, Vanity Fair was revived by Condé Nast Publications as a magazine focused on pop culture, fashion and politics.
